The airline was established in July
1997 and started operations in January1998 using decommissioned aircraft of the Ukrainian air force. Since 1998 UCA have been used to fulfilUN programmes inYugoslavia (Kosovo ) andAfrica (Sierra Leone ,Sudan andDemocratic Republic of the Congo ) to deliver relief cargo, transport peacekeeping troops and evacuate refugees. 2007 ACanadian Forces chartered Ukrainian Cargo AirwaysIlyushin Il-76 flying fromKeflavik International Airport ,Iceland struck some trees while on approach toCFB Trenton . The aircraft managed to land safely, but initially, the incident was not reported by the flight crew until base officials noticed wood debris on the runway and went to inspect the aircraft. The inspection revealed marks on the belly of the aircraft from the impact, and substantial damage to the main landing gear.Transport Canada and theTransportation Safety Board of Canada are both investigating the incident, and the aircraft in question has been grounded, with the flight data recorders pulled.
