Cardiff Blitz

During World War II, Cardiff, Wales was the biggest port in the United Kingdom,Fact|date=September 2008 and one of the biggest ports in the World.Fact|date=September 2008 Consequently it was heavily bombed by the Nazi German Luftwaffe due to its industrial importance and was one of the cities affected by the mass civilian evacuation.

Llandaff Cathedral, amongst many other civilian buildings, was damaged by the bombing in 1941 [cite web | title=History of Llandaff Cathederal| work=Llandaffcathedral.org.uk| url=http://www.llandaffcathedral.org.uk/history.htm | accessdate=2008-04-04] .

As a result of it being a target, Cork in Ireland was mistaken for Cardiff and consequently bombed [cite web | title=History of Ireland| work=Wesleyjohnston.com| url=http://www.wesleyjohnston.com/users/ireland/past/history/19321945.html | accessdate=2008-04-04] .
