Poncey-Highland

Poncey-Highland is a neighborhood on the east side of Atlanta, Georgia, located south of Virginia-Highland. It so named because it is near the intersection of Ponce de Leon and North Highland avenues. The Neighborhood was established between 1905 and 1930, and is bordered by Little Five Points to the east, the Old Fourth Ward and Midtown Atlanta to the west, Inman Park to the south, and Virginia-Highland to the north.

Poncey-Highland is home of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library, established in 1982. The Carter Center occupies an area of land that was planned as an eight-lane highway, but the development was successfully stopped by the surrounding neighborhoods. Nearby is Manuel's Tavern, a local political hangout. Poncey-Highland has several historic buildings including the Ford Factory (circa 1916) and The Plaza Theater (circa 1930).

Also located in Poncey-Highland is another Atlanta landmark, the Clermont Lounge, "Atlanta's oldest strip club," according to the Clermont Lounge website.

The corner of Ponce de Leon and Moreland Avenue is also well-known in Atlanta by the frequent sight of Willy Terry, a local street personality. He usually wears bicycle shorts and uses a cane and is notable for his large "presence" in this area.
