John Monckton (town clerk)

Sir John Braddick Monckton FSA (8 July 1832 - 3 February 1902) was a British lawyer and civil servant, Town Clerk of the City of London for 30 years.

He married actress Maria Louisa Long (1837-1920).

Their eldest son was composer Lionel Monckton. Their daughter, Mrs Augusta Moore, who wrote as Martin J. Pritchard was a popular novelist of the period.

He is buried in Brompton Cemetery, London.
