Ngāti Poneke Iwi of New Zealand Rohe (location) Wellington Ngāti Poneke is a Māori iwi of New Zealand. It is a pan-tribal iwi of Māori who have migrated to the city of Wellington (like Ngāti Ākarana in Auckland and Ngāti Ranana in London). "Poneke" is a Maori language diminutive of "Port Nicholson".
