Bulgaria has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest four times, debuting in 2005. Bulgaria made its second appearance in Eurovision in the 2006 contest, competing in the semi-final after the jazz-inspired band Kaffe failed to make it past the semi-final stage in 2005. In the 2006 contest, Bulgaria was represented by Mariana Popova and the song "Let Me Cry". In 2007 the country finally passed the semi-final and reached 5th place in the final held on 12th of May. In 2008, as there were two semi-finals, Bulgaria lost their automatic qualification and competed in the second semi-final on the 22nd of May. Although they finished above Sweden (12th), Bulgaria were not chosen by the jury to compete in the final.
