Xfm is a brand of
commercial radio stations focused onalternative music , primarily indie, and owned byGCap Media in theUnited Kingdom . Xfm was created in 1997 inLondon , but has since expanded to several stations. Each station produces its own content, with little syndication. XFM is now available across most of the country via DAB.The station has previously employed a number of DJs that have since gone on to even greater fame including
Ricky Gervais ,Karl Pilkington ,Stephen Merchant ,Simon Pegg ,Christian O'Connell andZane Lowe .On 11 February 2008
GCap Media announced that they would be selling the analogue licences for the Manchester, Scotland and South Wales stations [cite web | url = http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/feb/11/gcapmedia.digitaltvradio | title = DAB 'not economically viable' | accessdate = 2008-02-11] , retaining only XFM London. This was decided in an attempt to shore-up profits and concentrate on 'winning brands'.Current stations include:

*Xfm Scotland , previously known as "Beat 106", was launched on4 January 2006 .
*Mi Xfm , a 'personalised radio player' with no commercials or DJs was launched in February 2007.Former stations included:
*Xfm South Wales which broadcasted to Cardiff & Swansea between 29th November 2007 and 30 May 2008. It was then sold to Town & Country Broadcasting who reopened it as Nation Radio.The London variation is also broadcast on
