Peabody Orchestra

The Peabody Orchestra, an orchestra based out of the Peabody Conservatory, was formed in 1866. It was the first professional orchestra in the city of Batimore, and was led by Lucien Southard, Asger Hamerik and James Monroe Deems. The Orchestra premiered several influential works by Americans, as well as the American premiers of several European pieces, epecially from Hamerik's own Denmark. The Orchestra's players included Sidney Lanier, flautist.

The Orchestra stopped in 1896.
