Today's Headlines Monday, Apr 30, 2007 Hmisho Trading orders combined wire rodand bar mill

Syrian Hmisho Trading Group announced that it placed an order with SMS Meer for the supply of a new combined wire rod and bar mill.

The new mill is to be used for production of rebars with low and medium carbon content in the size range from 8mm to 40 mm for round bars and 5.5mm to 16 mm for wire rod in coils. The mill will have a capacity of 300,000 tonnes per year and it is scheduled to go into production in 2007.

SMS Meer is to supply the complete wire rod and bar mill with electrical equipment and automation system. The mill integrates the latest technologies, including the EBROS billet welding machine for the rolling of endless bars.

A 12 meter long reheating furnace with a capacity of 60 tonnes per hour for square billets of 130 mm will supply a single strand continuous rolling mill. The continuous rolling mill consists of a roughing mill with six H/V rolling groups and an intermediate/finishing multi pass train with eight H/V housing less stands. Down line of the mill, a water box allows quenching of the bars to improve the mechanical properties of the low carbon steel. The High Speed Delivery system equipped with a rotating channel will be installed on the inlet side of the cooling bed to transport straight bars at speeds of up to 36 meter per second. Fully automated bundling and a tying station also form part of the scope of supply.

The wire rod is produced in a 10 stand finishing block with coil diameters of 210 mm and 180 mm. The product dimensions are rolled in the line on a single pass series at the maximum mill speed of 80 meters per second. Two water cooling sections and the 65 meter long loop cooling conveyor guarantee optimally controlled product cooling. Behind the cooling section, the line is completed with bundling and transport equipment and a coil compacting and tying station.

Hmisho Trading orders combined wire rod and bar mill with a capacity of 300,000 t per year

SMS Meer - Hmisho Trading Group with head offices in Lattakia, Syria, has placed an order with SMS Meer for the supply of a new combined wire rod and bar mill. The mill is to be used for production of rebars with low and medium carbon content in the size range from 8 to 40 mm for round bars and 5.5 to 16 mm for wire rod in coils. The mill will have a capacity of 300,000 t per year.

SMS Meer is to supply the complete wire rod and bar mill with electrical equipment and automation system. The mill integrates the latest technologies, including the EBROS® billet welding machine for the rolling of endless bars.

A 12-m-long reheating furnace with a capacity of 60 t/h for square billets of 130 mm will supply a single-strand continuous rolling mill. The continuous rolling mill consists of a roughing mill with six H/V rolling groups and an intermediate/finishing multi-pass train with eight H/V housingless stands.

Downline of the mill, a water box allows quenching of the bars to improve the mechanical properties of the low carbon steel.

The H.S.D. ® (High-Speed Delivery) system equipped with a rotating channel will be installed on the inlet side of the cooling bed to transport straight bars at speeds of up to 36 m/s. Fully automated bundling and a tying station also form part of the scope of supply.

The wire rod is produced in a ten-stand finishing block with coil diameters of 210 mm and 180 mm. The product dimensions are rolled in the line on a single-pass series at the maximum mill speed of 80 m/s. Two water cooling sections and the 65-m-long loop cooling conveyor guarantee optimally controlled product cooling. Behind the cooling section, the line is completed with bundling and transport equipment and a coil compacting and tying station. The EBROS® billet welding machine for the rolling of endless bars that is installed between the reheating surface and the first stand is a system for welding together consecutive hot billets. Furthermore, the bundling station is equipped with an integral sickle-type shear with a reduced installation height of 500 mm. The shear is designed for cutting coils of wire rod with diameters up to 16 mm.

The advantages of the above-mentioned system components derive from the possible production of higher and more flexible coil weights, an improved product yield, higher productivity and hence a reduction in the number of short bars and scrap rollings. All these features contribute to reducing the production costs.

The mill is scheduled to go into production in 2007.
