History

The Killingholme "B" station opened before the "A" station.

900 MW plant

The 900MW Killingholme B station, when it opened in April 1993 being owned by Powergen, was only the second gas-fired power station built in the UK. It is now owned by E.ON UK. In 2002, due to the lower price of electricity, it was taken out of service, being [http://pressreleases.eon-uk.com/blogs/eonukpressreleases/archive/2005/08/16/e-on-uk-s-killingholme-power-station-returns-to-full-service-in-world-first.aspx restored] to full service in August 2005, with one of the 450MW units returning to service in April 2005. E.ON UK have an Education Centre at their site for school children.

652MW plant

The 652MW Killingholme A [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/161858 station] opened in 1994 being owned by National Power, and is now owned by Centrica. It was then bought by the American NRG Energy Inc company in February 2000 for £390m, who owned it until late 2003 when it was taken over by a consortium of twenty banks. It [http://www.centrica.co.uk/index.asp?pageid=29&newsid=303 bought] the plant from Killingholme Power Ltd in July 2004 for £142m. It employs 52 people.

pecification

Both plants are of the CCGT type running on natural gas.

900MW plant

It [http://www.eon-uk.com/about/963.aspx consists] of two modules, each with two Siemens V94.2 gas turbines each connected to a heat recovery steam generator but using only a single steam turbine in a 2 into 1 configuration. Each module produces 450MW. Gas is supplied from a 26 mile pipeline from Theddlethorpe.

652MW plant

It has three 150MW gas turbines each with a heat recovery steam generator which lead to one 230MW steam turbine.
