David Edgar (born March 27, 1950) is an American swimmer and Olympic champion. Edgar won seven NCAA championships while competing for the University of Tennessee and was named "Fastest Man Afloat" by Sports Illustrated magazine [1].He competed at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, where he received a gold medal in 4 × 100 m freestyle relay.[1] He received a gold medal in 4 × 100 m freestyle relay at the 1971 Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia.

World records

He set two world records during his career, both in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay.

Awards

Edgar was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1996.[2][3]
