Electoral division of Wanguri

Electoral division of Wanguri

Wanguri is an electoral division of the Legislative Assembly in Australia's Northern Territory. It was first created in 1983, and deriving its name from the suburb of the same name, and replacing the abolished electorate of Leanyer. Wanguri is an urban electorate, covering 8.01 km², and taking in the suburbs of Karama and Leanyer. There were 4301 people enrolled within the electorate as of June 2005.

Wanguri has generally been a marginal electorate, though like many others in the Territory, it has a tendency to keep its incumbent members, regardless of party. While the Country Liberal Party held it for the first six years after its creation in 1983, the Australian Labor Party have narrowly held it ever since. Henderson was not expected to have much difficulty retaining Wanguri at the 2005 election, and ultimately held the seat with a strong swing in his favour.
