Azul Brazilian Airlines (Portuguese: Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras S/A; or simply Azul) is a Brazilian low-cost airline company based in São Paulo. It was established on 5 May 2008 by Brazilian-born David Neeleman, founder and former-CEO of JetBlue. The airline is scheduled to start operating by the first quarter of 2009 and has ordered a fleet of 76 Embraer 195 jets. Azul aspires to fill Brazil's aviation void and to become the largest and most prominent airline in Brazil.

Naming of the Company

In 2008, Azul held a widely publicized contest in Brazil to name the new airline.
