Yevgeny Pepelyaev

Colonel Yevgeny Georgievich Pepelyaev (born 18 March 1918 in Bodaybo, Irkutsk, Eastern Siberia) is a Russian fighter pilot of the Korean war, tallying 19 confirmed kills, second only to his compatriot Nikolay Sutyagin's 21.

He was the commander of the 196th Fighter Air Regiment. In his MiG-15, Yevgeny Pepelyaev shot down 14 F-86 Sabres, two F9F Panthers, an F-84 Thunderjet, and two P-80 Shooting Stars. He flew 109 combat missions, with 38 aerial engagements.

Pepelyaev was awarded the Order of Lenin twice, three Orders of the Red Banner, Order of the Patriotic War 1st and 2nd Class and two Orders of Red Star.
