A Democrat, Dibble was first elected to the Senate in November 2002 and reelected in 2006 and 2010. He previously served one term in the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 60B.[3][4]
Dibble serves on the Senate Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications, State Government Innovation and Veterans, and Transportation committees.[3]
Dibble attended both the University of Minnesota and the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul.[3]
Dibble is openly gay. His husband is Richard Leyva. They married in California before the passage of Proposition 8, although their marriage is not recognized by the state of Minnesota. He is one of two gay members of the Minnesota Legislature, along with Rep. Karen Clark, also a Democrat from Minneapolis.[5] His campaigns have won the support of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund.
