Analog modeling synthesizer

An Analog Modeling Synthesizer is a synthesizer that emulates the sounds of traditional analog synthesizers using digital signal processing components. This method of synthesis is also referred to as Virtual Analog or VA. There is a vague consensus that while VAs can be useful and expressive instruments in their own right, they are not a replacement for real analog synthesizers.Fact|date=March 2007 Some synthesizers like the Roland JP-8000 have been constantly praised for their accurate analog sound.Fact|date=March 2007 On the other hand, they exceed many analog instruments in reliability and polyphony,Fact|date=March 2007 and offer patch storage capabilities not found on all analog instruments, including MIDI support.Fact|date=March 2007

Examples of VA synthesizers include:
* Clavia Nord Lead and Modular series
* Novation A-Station, K-Station, X-Station, Supernova, Supernova II, Nova, XioSynth
* Roland JP-8000, JP-8080, V-Synth, SH-201
* Korg Z1, Prophecy, MS-2000, microKORG, RADIAS, R3
* Alesis Ion, Micron and Fusion
* Waldorf Q, Q+ and MicroQ
* Access Virus line of VA synths
* Yamaha AN1x
