Dr. Smith is editor-in-chief of the "Journal of General Virology" and chairs the WHO's "Advisory Committee on Variola Virus Research"World Health Organisation, WHO Advisory Committee on Variola Virus Research. As of 2008 he remains the Head of the Department of Virology at Imperial College London.
