Promotion and relegation

In the second season of the Northern Premier League none of the teams were put forward for election to the Football League nor automatically promoted. Conversely, none of the sides were relegated, but Hyde United and Gateshead left the League at the end of the season, replaced by newly-admitted Chorley (returning after a year's absence), Kirkby Town, Lancaster City and Bradford Park Avenue, who had just left Football League Division Four.
