Peter Polansky is a Canadian professional tennis player. At World No. 267, he is now the second highest ranked Canadian singles player, after only Frank Dancevic. Polansky is presently No. 237 in the ATP Race.

Polansky is currently playing his best tennis thus far, having reached the semi-finals of the Rabat Challenger during the first week of May, 2008. He defeated World No. 179 Laurent Recouderc in the second round. This result came of the heels of Polansky reaching the quarter-finals of the Florianopolis Challenger, with a win over World No. 206 Joao Souza, and a closely contested Davis Cup match loss to World No. 11 Chilean Fernando Gonzalez. Polansky lost two tie-breakers and the match, the first rubber of their countries's Davis Cup tie played in April in Santiago, in four sets. He also defeated World No. 120 Teimuraz Gabashvili in mid-May at the Marrakech Challenger, where he reached the second round. All of these results have occurred on a clay surface.

Clay surface is shown not to be Polansky's only successful surface. Polansky is perhaps best known to the tennis world for finishing runner-up at the 2006 U.S. Open - Boys' Singles tournament, which he entered as a Special Entrant. Polansky defeated top-seeded Martin Klizan in the second round and fourth seeded and fan favourite American Donald Young in the semis to reach the final where lost to tenth seeded Dusan Lojda.

Polansky in 2008 reached the quarter-finals of the Santiago Challenger in late February with wins over World No. ~230 Rajeev Ram, World No. 198 Adrian Menendez as he also reached the quarter-finals of the Santiago Challenger in late February. He also defeated World No. 172 Bruno Echagaray handily on carpet in Calgary in Davis Cup action played in early February. He won a Futures tournament, Guatemala F1, in January.

In 2007, Polansky finished year the ranked 343 as he recorded wins over World No. 106 Danai Udomchoke (as Udomchoke retired from the match) and No. 119 Kevin Kim. He began the year winning three of four Futures events he entered in January, another in March, and reaching the second round in six of seven Challenger series events contested. Polansky had finished 2006 ranked World No. 821.

Polansky has played in two Masters Series tournaments, the Canada Masters twice as a wildcard, and lost both times in the first round in straight sets in 2006 and 2007. In May 2008, he participated in his first International Series-level event, as a qualifier, in the Grand Prix Hassan II event. He lost in the first round in three sets to former World No. 3 Guillermo Coria. He participated in a qualifying tournament for a grand slam event for the first time, Wimbledon, losing in the first round. Polanksy then lost in successive challengers in the first round before reaching the second round at back-to-back challengers, played in Canada (Granby and Moncton). Polansky then defeated both Colombian No. 1 and tournament No. 4 seed Alejandro Falla and defending champion and Canada No. 2 Frederic Niemeyer to reach the quarterfinals of the Vancouver challenger. In August, he reached the second round of the 2008 U.S. Open qualifying tournament for singles, defeating Rajeev Ram before falling to No. 24 seed Simon Stadler.

Polansky survived a major scare as an 18 years old. While he was in Mexico to play a Davis Cup series for his country he woke up sleepwalking and jumped or fell from a three-storey room suffering serious injuries. Later he said that he saw a dark figure approaching his bed wielding a knife and only thought about escaping through the window. He recovered miraculously and 4 months later was playing tennis] [http://postcitymagazines.com/2006-08/story_200608_PeterPolansky.php]

Polansky is coached by Dean Coburn.
