Sitrida Geagea

Sitrida Taouk Geagea, (Arabic: ستريدا طوق جعجع), (also written "Sethrida" or "Setrida") is a Lebanese politician born May 31, 1967 in Ghana, as Sitrida Taouk.

Early life

Sitrida Geagea hails from a prominent Maronite Lebanese family that owned businessescitation in West Africa. She is the niece of longtime Bsharri MP, Dr Gibran Tawk. In her teens, Sitrida was renowned for her beauty, which made her a media favorite in Lebanon. Her political activism began while at the Lebanese University, and it led to meeting the leader of the Lebanese Forces (LF), Samir Geagea, whom she later married.

Political career

Sitrida Geagea publicly criticized the presence of the Syrian army in Lebanon during the Pax Syriana over Lebanon from 1991 to April 2005, when Syrian troops withdrew from Lebanon as a result of international pressure and the Cedar Revolution. She also became the sole voice of the party during Geagea's decade-long political imprisonment. She led the LF in his absence and worked with other mainly Christian Lebanese parties and groups such as the Qornet Chehwan Gathering and the Free Patriotic Movement for his release, which finally happened on July 26, 2005.

Sitrida Geagea was elected to the Lebanese Parliament in 2005 as Bsharri's MP, along with Elie Kayrouz.
