Independent Safeguarding Authority

The Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) is a Non-Departmental Public Body created by the UK Government to help prevent unsuitable people from working with children and vulnerable adults [Bichard Report http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soham_murders ] . It was formerly known as the Independent Barring Board.

Expanding the existing Criminal Records Bureau checks, from 2009 ISA will require all adults who work or volunteer in positions where they come into contact with children or vulnerable adults to be vetted, a group which is said to comprise 11.3 million people (a quarter of the adult population).Christopher Hope: [http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/2194359/A-quarter-of-adults-to-face-%27anti-paedophile%27-tests.html A quarter of adults to face 'anti-paedophile' tests] .
