Homecroft is a town in Perry Township, Marion County, Indiana, United States. The population was 751 at the 2000 census. It has existed as an "included town" since 1970, when it was incorporated into Indianapolis as part of Unigov. It is part of Indianapolis, but retains a functioning town government under IC 36-3-1-11 [ [http://www.in.gov/legislative/ic/code/title36/ar3/ch1.html Indiana Code 36-3-1 ] ] . The town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Geography

Homecroft is located at coor dms|39|40|8|N|86|7|48|W|city (39.668945, -86.129862)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²).None of the area is covered with water.

Government

The elected governing body of Homecroft is comprised of a Clerk-Treasurer and four Town Councilors. The current Clerk-Treasurer is Thomas J. Koppel, Jr. The Town Councilors are William J. Coomes, Timothy Eickhoff, Barbara K. Jones, and Chris Mosier. Homecroft also maintains an independent police force to serve the community.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 751 people, 310 households, and 227 families residing in the town. The population density was 3,243.5 people per square mile (1,260.7/km²). There were 316 housing units at an average density of 1,364.8/sq mi (530.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.67% White, 0.13% African American, 0.40% Asian, 0.27% from other races, and 0.53% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.80% of the population.

There were 310 households out of which 26.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.9% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.5% were non-families. 22.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.81.

In the town the population was spread out with 21.8% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 29.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 101.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.5 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $60,156, and the median income for a family was $70,859. Males had a median income of $51,563 versus $38,194 for females. The per capita income for the town was $28,888. About 1.3% of families and 2.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.3% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
