Minnesota State UniversityProfession farmer, legislator Christopher "Chris" Swedzinski (born May 10, 1978) is a Minnesota politician and a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives who represents District 21A, a predominantly rural district in southwestern Minnesota, which includes all or portions of Lyon, Redwood and Yellow Medicine counties, and the cities of Marshall and Redwood Falls.[1]
A Republican, Swedzinski was first elected to the House in 2010, succeeding Rep. Marty Seifert, who did not seek re-election. He ran on a platform of cutting taxes, reducing the size of government, and empowering the individual.[2] He currently serves on the Agriculture and Rural Development Policy and Finance, the Capital Investment, and the Jobs and Economic Development Finance committees.[3][4]
Swedzinski graduated from Minneota High School in Minneota, then went on to Ridgewater College in Willmar and Minnesota State University in Mankato, earning his B.S. in history and political science. He served as a district representative for former U.S. Representative Mark Kennedy for five years, and also worked as a Rural Development Specialist for the United States Department of Agriculture, designing and facilitating outreach plans and strategies for rural businesses and renewable energy efforts. He and his family live and farm near Ghent.[5][6]
