Before 1995 he was instructor in aviation security for the French swat police (CRS – Compagnie Républicaine de Sécurité) for airport security and border control, before the pre-privatization measures with the equivalent of TSA[[1]]. Since 1996 he teaches X ray screening for the French gendarmerie (equivalent of National Guard) and for correctional institution since 2000. He is a trainer for the French national police and the gendarmerie and is working within the French police cooperation unit (DCI) since 1997. Since 1999 he is searcher and lecturer at DRMCC (Department for Research on contemporary criminal threats), department laboratory of the Institute of Criminology at the University of Paris II, directed by Francois Haut, also known as a LA gang specialist, and Xavier Raufer,

His work follows two lines of research :

  • the protection of commercial air transport,
  • crime and identity.

He is also one of the vice presidents of the European Academy of Geopolitical chaired by professor Michel Korinman

Early in the second Iraqi war in 2002, Christophe Naudin considered that Saddam Hussein possessed indeed chemical weapons many binary and ternary he had previously made use of Kurdish civilians. He believed that it is not because the UN experts have never found traces of chemical weapons that they did not exist.

He strongly supports the foreign policy of the United States, whether Bush or Obama administration.

Christophe Naudin is a X-ray screening specialist in security detection technologies and in traces detection for narcotics or portable explosives. He argues that aviation security is a "big illusion" and that only the intelligence services are able to detect an possible attack. Meanwhile, he still works in research with the arms industry on the detection of CBRNE threats. He has conducted security tests in 2003 and 2005 in French airports at the request of the French congress, managing to smuggle neutralized weapons and inert explosives on board aircraft. Despite the protests of several officials of airports, undeniable flaws were revealed, as some inefficiency in security managers.

He exposed to CNN and NBC that TSA agent were actually better than European agent, for reason :

  • better selection and better background of the agent
  • better management
  • better training
  • better consideration by the public and the customers (law enforcement uniform, professionalism, standard operational procedures, etc.)

One of his regrets is that U.S. agents working in an international airport, do not make enough effort to contact customers in a foreign language.

He is supporting publicaly 99% of American measures, but he wishes that France and Europe would be inspired in it’s future airport security reform by copying part of the American system. “Globaly TSA and FAA are making a good job” he said, meanwhile the American culture and behavior cannot be exported as a any kind of merchandise in the rest of the world. Some locals adaptations in aviation security are mandatory.

He regrets :

  • The FAA culture of secret, contrary to information sharing and effective action
  • The paranoiac attitude of the american administration after 9/11

Christophe Naudin argues that the concept of airport security applied worldwide is not the right one :

  • All of the protection of international commercial aviation is based on finding the object, not on the people themselves. However, the threat comes from people, not from inert object, even as a weapon or a gun.
  • Inspect 100% of air passengers in the same way under leads to poor quality of control. To undergo an annually security check to 2.1 billion passengers, for 2 or 3 attempts to attack a year is treated as a unacceptable ratio and an unjustified collective punishment. He also thinks that the precautionary principle in airport security is taken to extremes, at an exorbitant cost for an illusory result.
  • Fight against an outdated threat: that of a bombing industrial and military. The threat would most likely chemical (explosive or toxic chemical), and in this regard, we have neither the equipment nor trained personnel to respond properly in United States, Europe or the western world in general.

He is opposed to the withdrawal of blankets to passengers one hour before landing, in order to prevent potential dangerous passenger from moving on the plane one hour before landing, the withdrawal of fluids and gels, and the disappearance of the security envelopes that allowed the passenger to retrieve an object considered dangerous by a TSA officer.

Boarding Black list

After the attempt of december 25th 2009 by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab a young Nigerian student of 23, he condemned the effectiveness of boarding black list, even Abdulmuttalab was designated in November 2009 to U.S. services by his own father a former diplomat). Christophe Naudin defended biometric records, saying that they could be stored with the image of X-ray checked baggage for each passenger 48 hours after each flight. He said It should be more personal and collective freedom for everyone, strengthen security measures while reducing the constraints on people.

Aiport security officer

  • Recruitment, training, and management of personnel in charge of airport security could be inappropriate. It argues that airport security is a real job, which must be considered by the field, and paid up to the responsibilities entrusted by the agent. However, security officers are recruited from a vulnerable population uneducated, poorly considered, which excluded generally any legitimacy or status for passengers.
  • As security is a national task in order to defend state and nation, it should be assigned and implemented by the internal law enforcement agencies, or by National Defense, not by the technicians of Civil Aviation (FAA). Even if this sovereign mission is entrusted to private companies, they should depend on an operational needs and choices of the police or the army. Airports should be payers, with no possibility to interfere in the management staffing or training.

In May 2010, during a TSR[9] (Télévision Suisse Romande – swiss television) broadcast “Temps present”, he hoped that the airport operators and airlines are becoming more understanding with airport security officers and agents, which are now, he said, the proletarian people of the business in the aeronautical field. "Lack of training and professionalism should not be blamed to the security agents themselves, but to those who employ them without consideration for the people they are, the skills they should have, and strive to continually reduce the prestige of security jobs.

Air cargo freight

Following the attempted attack 10/30/2010, by air freight at two Jewish institutions in Chicago, Christophe Naudin said on 11/01/2010 at 13.45 on RMC[10] French radio and BFMTV[11] (24 hours news television) that security measures of air cargo were sufficient. He said if they did not work in Sanaa in Yemen, they have been effective since the explosive in the printer cartridges were discovered in Dubai and England. He called for a professionalization of existing measures and personnel applying them, while denying a new inflation of protective measures The executive CEO of Ryanair, Michael O'Leary has taken the words of the expert, saying it had to reduce the airport security measures, and reduce the burden on passengers, especially if they are costly and inefficient.

body scan

Christophe Naudin considers that the body scan (or full-body scanners) are a major step forward for passengers security, because it saves them to undress or to avoid an unpleasant palpation. Regarding the debate about the indignity of such a device due to the visualization of the shape of people as a violation of privacy, he said on RTL (French radio) and M6 (French television) 1/8/2010 that "nobody" had the bright idea to ask the question of the dignity of the body on a beach during summer holidays, "condemned the tropism of some ideological advisors of the European Parliament who introduced the possibility that images of children virtually stripped by the scanner can be recovered by child pornographers agents.

According to Christophe Naudin, all living beings on earth have an identification and authentication system of their relatives and other species. That goes for the dog, the green plant and human. However, we would have forgotten what biological biometric device for names. All human societies use nominatives systems more or less complex that took years to decode. Today, he argues that modern states of law do not know how identify their people. For 200 years, western society wanted to impose the concept of Judeo-Christian identity to the rest of the world without success. So that people can maintain their original identity, it would migrate to the multimodal biometrics.

Identity versus Anthropology

His work on the anthropology of identity continues today based on ethology.

Inability to identify people

Still according to him, a modern state who can not identify its citizens and foreigners in its territory is in the process of destabilization. It should therefore generalize biometrics to all acts of everyday life, beginning with border control. He argued Thierry Mariani; french congressman and actual minister of transportation, who wanted widespread DNA testing in the context of family reunification. Christophe Naudin says that the concept of physical border disappears, and that it is today as a historic step. Similarly, he regretted that President Nicolas Sarkozy delays the project NIEC (electronic national identity card) because he believes the election calendar. In 2003 he was an advocate of the death of driver's license, so that this document be included as a reference on the national identity card, as is done in the United States and Canada.

Biometry

Strong supporter of the Biometric Society, he believes that this technology is the only way to bring more individual and collective freedoms for citizens, by deterring and by decreasing the number of contrôles15. He supports the project of Catherine Vautrin, vice president of the french National Assembly, who wants to create a crime of identity theft in connection with the LOPSI (Internal Security Laws). He defends the concept of biometric identification has very long distance "(IBATLD) device based on the identification monitoring, and monitoring of all the fighters or people in desert areas, from a drone.

In the past, security companies mainly reproached him for being too ambitious in terms of security, especially to benefit from institutional protection of the highest level. Today in 2011 the trend reversed and the professionalization long defended by Christophe Naudin today unanimously including with ICAO and the U.S. TSA. Similarly, the medical fitness of operators of security officers x-ray safety is now acquired for many countries.

In an article for the Spanish daily El Païs[12], he said that security officers, as police officers, working in an international context, should be recruited and selected with criteria similar to those of the crew, particularly with respect practice a minimum of English, currently below the minimum reasonable. The security officers' unions have condemned these statements considering it elitism or social racism. In September 2009, he supported the Prefet Paul Girot de Langlade convicted of racial abuse against an agent from Martinique, and an airline pilot who had written to ADP in racist terms, to complain about the behavior of agents safety during the inspection crews.
