"Conversation Piece" is a song written by David Bowie. It was released as the B-side of the single "The Prettiest Star" from 1970.

The song is a first-person narrative of an old scholar who is almost completely alone in the world, and seems to be waiting for death.

It was covered live in 2002 by singer Kristeen Young.

Other releases

  • Bowie recorded a demo version of the song together with John Hutchinson in February 1969.
  • The song also appeared as a bonus track on the 1990 USA Rykodisc double LP and CD re-release of Space Oddity, as well as the same year's British CD, Cassette and single LP editions released by EMI.
  • In 2000 Bowie recorded a new version of the song for an unreleased album project called Toy. This version was released on the Limited edition bonus disc of Heathen in 2002.
