Douglas "Doug" John Mudgway is a former wrestler from New Zealand.

In the 1950 British Empire Games in Auckland, Doug won a gold medal for wrestling. It was New Zealand's first ever wrestling gold medal at the British Empire Games (now Commonwealth Games). Doug wrestled in the bantam weight (57 kg) division.^[1]

Doug started wrestling at an early age and won several NZ titles. He married Margaret Shearman who later became the first woman executive committee member and later the first woman Vice President of the New Zealand Wrestling Association.

Doug and Margaret had 3 sons, John, David and Paul; all sons wrestled and had varying degrees of success. Doug and John both won the open City of Sydney(Aus) in their respective weight division at the 1968 tournament, the first and only father and son combination to have achieved this.

Margaret continued to support the international fraternity and was the assistant tournament controller at the Christchurch Commonwealth Games in 1974.
