The Ninth constituency for French residents overseas (neuvième circonscription des Français établis hors de France) is one of eleven constituencies each electing one representative of French citizens overseas to the French National Assembly.

Area

It covers all French citizens living in the following sixteen countries of North-West Africa: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, the Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Tunisia. (It specifically excludes Western Sahara, which is recognised neither as a part of Morocco nor as a separate country, and is not a part of any constituency.) As of New Year's Day 2011, it contained 133,936 registered French voters - of which 41,129 in Morocco, 28,287 in Algeria, 19,995 in Tunisia, 16,817 in Senegal, and 13,094 in Côte d'Ivoire.[1] [2] [3]

This constituency will elect its first ever representative at the 2012 French legislative election.

Two candidates are known at present.

The Union for a Popular Movement has chosen Khadija Doukkali, a resident of Morocco, as its candidate.[4]

The Socialist Party will announce its candidate in autumn 2011.[5]

Europe Écologie–The Greens has chosen Guilhem Calvo, with Laurence Bonneterre as his deputy (suppléante).[6]
