The Northwest Hockey Conference is a High School leveled hockey league that takes place out of the northwestern part of Ohio that pulls mostly from Toledo and Sylvania travel/house hockey teams. Although the league is currently losing a lot of interest from potential players, it is still a very dominant league through the whole state of Ohio.

History

The NHC was first established in 1977 with an objective to increase the level of playing skill through the northwest part of Ohio. Four of the key founding members include Joe Czernicki, Athletic Director St. John’s High School; Marv Dunn, Teacher and faculty advisor for Bowling Green High School’s hockey program; Mike Root, Coach Findlay High School; Cosimo Figliomeni, Coach St. John’s High School.

Rinks Used

Currently the league uses 6 rinks for league/tournament play. They include Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter, the Toledo Ice House, the BGSU Ice Arena, the Findlay Cube, Monroe Multi-Sports Complex, and the Fremont Ross Ice Rink.

Teams

The NHC consists of a total of 17 Varsity and 4 JV teams. Of the 21 teams, 19 are from Ohio and 2 are from Michigan. In the NHC, there are 4 divisions: the Red Division, White Division, Blue Division, and a JV Division. The White division consists of 8 teams broken up into 2 "leagues".

edit] Season Structure

This year, the leagues season structure has changed a little bit due to old teams folding and new teams joining the NHC. In the Red Division, each team will play 8 league games, the White Division will play 10 each, the Blue Division will play 9 games each and the JV Division will play 6 games each. After league play, there will be a draft for playoff spots based on power rankings within the league.

Awards

At the end of the year, the league coaches have a vote on league MVPs, Coach of the year, first and second team all league for their divisions, honorable mentions for their divisions, and sportsmen of the year for each division. All data dates from the 2005-06' season to present day play.
