It is the home of Leitrim GAA's football and hurling teams. The stadium has a capacity of 17,000 with 3000 seats. It was named for The Irish Revolutionary Seán Mac Diarmada, one of the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising.
In 2006/2007, the changing rooms/media rooms underwent a major renovation, becoming a 3000 seater,covered stand.
It provided a totally unrestricted view of the football field, something not seen in roofed GAA stands too often. Within, contained 3 levels:

Costing approximately 3million euro, it was funded by grants, governemt funding, and a "Get on the Team" initiative, which fundraised from the local community. The stand naming rights were then sold, and is now called stand Mhic Shamhrain.See also
