Fredonia is a village in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. It is the home of the "National Flag Day Foundation" and identifies itself as the birthplace of Flag Day [Ozaukee County, Wisconsin website - http://www.co.ozaukee.wi.us/history/stoneyhill.html] . As of the 2000 census, the village population was 1934. The village is located mostly within the Town of Fredonia. A small portion lies within an adjacent town.

Geography

Fredonia is located at coor dms|43|28|6|N|87|57|6|W|city (43.468471, -87.95183)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.7 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 1,934 people, 701 households, and 536 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,351.1 people per square mile (522.2/km²). There were 734 housing units at an average density of 512.8/sq mi (198.2/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 87.36% White, 8.52% Black or African American, 0.52% Asian, 0.47% Native American, 0% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 0.78% from two or more races. 1.40% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 701 households out of which 42.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.6% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% were non-families. 17.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.17.

In the village the population was spread out with 29.6% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 33.7% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $53,173, and the median income for a family was $60,326. Males had a median income of $39,464 versus $26,292 for females. The per capita income for the village was $20,644. About 2.2% of families and 2.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.5% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
