Tun Razak Highway, Federal Route Jkr-ft12.png (Lebuhraya Tun Razak), or also known as Segamat-Kuantan Highway (Lebuhraya Segamat-Kuantan) is a 146.8 kilometres (91 mi) federal highway running from the town of Segamat, Johor to Gambang before proceeding another 38 kilometres (24 mi) via Federal route Jkr-ft2.png to Gambang near Kuantan, Pahang. This 2-lane federal road is named in honor of Tun Abdul Razak, Malaysia's second Prime Minister which was known as Malaysia's Father of Development.

Route background

The Kilometre Zero of the Federal Route 12 is located at Segamat, Johor, at its interchange with the Federal Route Jkr-ft1.png, the main trunk road of the central of Peninsular Malaysia. Next, the highway passing the Johor-Pahang border near Perwira Jaya at Pahang side.

The Federal Route 12 passing the Bera Highway (Federal Route Jkr-ft11.png junctions at Bandar Tun Abdul Razak. Next, the highway passing the diamond interchange of the Federal Route Jkr-ft63.png at Bandar Muadzam Shah. After that, the highway crossed over Pahang River bridge. Finally, the highway ends at Gambang, Pahang, at its junctions with the Federal Route Jkr-ft2.png, the main trunk road of the east and west coasts of Peninsula Malaysia.

History

Built in 1970's under Malaysia's New Economic Policy, this 2-lane federal road is built with reasons as follows:-

  • To shorten the traveling distance time from southwestern towns and cities such as Segamat, Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat and Melaka to eastern states of Peninsular Malaysia.
  • To speed up the development of the poorly-developed areas in southern Pahang.
  • The highway join from Kuantan to East Coast Expressway and Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway in 2 hours.

At most section, the Federal Route 12 was built under the JKR R5 road standard, allowing maximum speed limit of up to 90 km/h.
