There are numerous country shops, classic houses, and restaurants in the community. It is located near the Patrick/Floyd county line about 20 miles east of Hillsville and about 14 miles northwest of Stuart, Virginia. The community's name comes from the Dan River which flows through the area. The community's motto as posted on the welcoming sign is "A simpler place in time". Meadows of Dan is located along the Crooked Road, Virginia's heritage music trail and in the Rocky Knob American Viticultural Area.
Meadows of Dan, Virginia has various small shops that people can visit. Some of these shops carry some of the most unique items. One of the many shops is Meadow’s Edge Knife Shop and Antiques located on J.E.B. Stuart highway that carries knives usually only found at large knife shows and one-of-a-kind antiques. There is also a small shop right across from Meadow’s Edge that sells Christmas items called “Christmas in the Meadows”. It is a place to buy small Christmas trinkets and decorations. The Poor Farmer’s market is also a place to pick up unique gifts and souvenirs, locally grown produce, homemade cakes and pies, and ice cream. The Poor Farmer’s market is also a gas station and convenience store. Nancy’s Homemade Fudge factory is also an attraction in the town. During the Summer and Fall months this factory is busy. Visitors can see how the fudge is made and can also buy fudge and other candies. On several occasions, there will be free samples to try the various fudges that are currently being sold.
There are a few places to eat nearby including Mountain House Restaurant that make home-cooked meals daily, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Two by Two BBQ, LLC is a restaurant that serves Lexington, North Carolina style barbeque open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Chateau Morrisette Winery is also nearby, located just fifteen minutes from Meadows of Dan on the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 171.5. Chateau Morrisette offers fine wines and exquisite dining all year round.
The community of Meadows of Dan hosts an annual Folk Fair, in cooperation with the Virginia Peach Festival. This festival features local artisans, music, a play and other talent and is held on the second Saturday of every August. Ararat, Va is the home of Primland resort. Meadows of Dan was also a setting for the minsitry of Reverend Bob Childress whose life was chornicled in the book "The Man Who Moved a Mountain".
