Early life

Mark Landers was born in Killeagh in East County Cork in 1972. He was educated locally and later attended St. Colman's College in Fermoy, a virtual hurling academy.

Playing career

Club

Landers played his club hurling with his local Killeagh club and enjoyed some success, winning a Cork Junior Hurling Championship title in 1995. In 1997 and 1998 he won back-to-back senior county titles with his local divisional side Imokilly.

Inter-county

Landers first inter-county experience came in the late 1980s as a member of the Cork minor hurling team. He won a Munster title at this level in 1990, however, an All-Ireland title eluded him due to a defeat in the final. Landers later became a member of the county senior team, however, he suffered a cruciate ligament injury a month before the opening of the 1992 championship. Over the next few seasons he failed to make the breakthrough onto the team, however, he did win a Munster title with the Cork junior team in 1996. Landers later joined the senior team again and won a National Hurling League medal in 1998. He made his championship debut against Limerick later that same year and was appointed captain of the team in 1999. That year Landers won his first senior Munster title. It was Cork’s first provincial title since 1992. Landers later won a senior All-Ireland medal as Cork defeated Kilkenny in the championship decider for the first time in twenty-one years. Landers was dropped from the starting fifteen in 2000, however, he returned to the team in 2001. Landers left in 2002.
