Bayswater is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Bayswater, on the Belgrave railway line. Bayswater is classed as a Premium Station and is in Metcard Zone 2.
Facilities
The station is located at the southern end of the Mountain Highway level crossing and between Station Street and the United Group Rail train maintenance facility. Both platforms are accessible from Station Street.
The station consists of two platforms, in an island format with a large fibro building in the centre. A large Metcard machine is located inside the waiting room, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A subway is located underneath the station.
History
Bayswater station originally opened on December 4, 1889. It was once the destination of goods trains conveying cement, the last train running on June 24, 1987 when the traffic was relocated to Lyndhurst station near Dandenong.[cite journal | year = 1987 | month = September | title = Traffic | journal = Newsrail | publisher = Australian Railway Historical Society (Victorian Division) | pages = page 280 ] It was upgraded to Premium Station status in 2001.]The train maintenance and stabling facilities opened in 1998 and was completed by 1999, and replaced the facilities at Jolimont Yard. The buildings were approximately 2,850 m² in size, and permit bogie repair and replacement, under carriage and overhead work. The facility cost $15 million, which also included the Westall facility.
