Arizona State University at the West Campus is one of four university campuses that compose Arizona State University. The West campus was established by the Arizona Legislature in 1984, and is located in northwest Phoenix, bordering the city of Glendale, Arizona.

Unlike a university system, the ASU campuses are all part of a single university, with a common administration presiding over the faculty, staff, and students. History

Construction of what is now known as the West Campus began in 1986, with the first permanent buildings completed by 1989. Two years later, all of the current buildings were completed.

As its inception, the West campus was designed to offer only upper-level undergraduate courses; however, in 2001, it became a four-year college allowing students to complete their entire education on the campus. In the years since 2001, the academic structure of the campus was reorganized to highlight its interdisciplinary focus, and to facilitate the moving of several graduate programs to the campus. [ [http://west.asu.edu/aboutasuw/gen.html History of the ASU West Campus] ] As enrollment continues to grow, additional academic buildings and private developments are scheduled to expand the physical campus.
