Bemis, South Dakota

Bemis is an unincorporated community in Deuel County in the northeast corner of the U.S. state of South Dakota. It is not officially recognized by the state, but it elects a ceremonial mayor.

The town is entirely residential, with twelve houses along a 0.3-mile stretch of road, and its area is 0.3 square miles. 2/3 of the houses are occupied by married couples, and 40 is the average age. The population is about 37. Caucasians and Hispanics are the majorities.Fact|date=March 2007

Once, this was a relatively large town. This was when the railroad was operational and running through it. They had a post office, general store, gas station, and even a school. Once the railroad was shut down, most residents left for Watertown, South Dakota or bigger towns.Fact|date=March 2007
