List of characters in The Nightmare Before Christmas

This is a list of characters seen in The Nightmare Before Christmas franchise.

Main Characters

Jack Skellington

A dreaded nightmarish skeleton with the alias of "The Pumpkin King". Having a very bright and charming personality, he is very popular in Halloween Town, particularly among the female inhabitants. He is the main person in charge of Halloween but has lately grown weary of the sound of screams and contemplates his meaningless existence until he discovers Christmas Town. Jack decides to bring Christmas to Halloween Town... and into the Real World. His frightening Christmas presents only end up bringing chaos and turmoil to the Land of the Living of Christmas Town. Jack learns a lesson of merit, and what has really been missing in his un-life.

=Sally=

Jack Skellington's love-interest (assumed one-sided at first), who is the only person in the town who understands Jack's aspiration for change. She is an alluring ragdoll with the ability to have premonitions. She was lazily patched together by Doctor Finkelstein by an assortment of cloths and is apparently stuffed with dried leaves. Sally's borne inspiration of creation is unknown (some speculate a maid or a romantic partner gone awry). She has doubts about Jack's Christmas plan, but she is constantly imprisoned by her creator Finkelstein, forcing Sally to poison his soup with Deadly Nightshade in order to escape. Her body often becomes unsewn, with her limbs having a mind of their own. They can still be controlled whilst unsewn. Despite her lopsided appearance, Sally is a determined individual who accomplishes her goals despite the odds.

Doctor Finklestein

A resident of Halloween Town, the wheelchair-bound mad scientist and creator of Sally. Overprotective of his creation, he forbids her from leaving the house, and forces her to serve as his housekeeper. Frustrated at Sally's frequent absconding, Finkelstein creates a new woman to replace her (and, it is implied, to serve as a love interest "Jewel") - the two are literally "made" for each other. He's also very controlling. (Doctor Finklestein also makes a cameo appearance in Majesco's "Psychonauts".)

Mayor of Halloween Town

The gentle, soft-hearted Mayor of Halloween Town. His head has two faces: a happy face on one side, and a white sad one on the other, switching between them depending on his mood. This is also a very literal representation of the concept that politicians are two-faced. He is only an elected official and can't make decisions without Jack. He is often portrayed as clumsy and highly anxious.

Oogie Boogie

The original Lord of the banished Holiday called Bug Day (that holiday once heralded the existence of insects and all that is creepy and crawly). The hoodlum of Halloween Town, an avid gambler who is disliked by everyone. His cloth body hides several tens of thousands of insects. He is sinister and relishes delight in other peoples' misery. His wisdom is questionable, however. He states at least once that he is the Boogie Man.

Lock, Shock, and Barrel

Lock, Shock, and Barrel are a group of trick-or-treaters who work for Oogie Boogie. Their masks are almost exactly the same as their real faces. Lock is leader of Oogie's Boys, but doesn't think thoroughly. Shock is the most cunning of Oogie's boys and considers her brother insubordinate, Barrel is considered the stupid one despite his protests and is the butt of many jokes by his siblings. Shock wears a witch costume. Lock wears a devil costume, and Barrel wears a skeleton costume and has mutated feet, although he resembles a human boy.

Santa Claus

Good ol' Saint Nick is the ruler of Christmas Town. He delivers gifts to good boys and girls while they slumber, and is popular all around the world. His name is misheard by Jack as "Sandy Claws", a scary slang of the former. He is fed-up with Jack's foolish behavior when he tries to improvise Christmas. In "", he is once again captured by Oogie Boogie in his quest to become the Seven Holidays King and Jack has to save him again.

Zero

An intelligent ghost dog who floats about freely in space and follows Jack wherever he goes. He serves as Jack's conscience, whimpering a warning when something doesn't seem right. His jack-o-lantern nose also doubles as a bright light (which later becomes useful throughout the movie, a parody of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer").

Minor Characters

Bat Kid

A small demon that walks using its large bat-like wings. He is friends with the Corpse Kid and the Mummy Boy. Referred to in the card game as "Winged Demon."

Behemoth

A 7 ft. farmer zombie with an axe in his head. One of the stronger citizens of Halloween Town. He is rather slow & often dim witted. Also known as 'Farmhand' or 'Tor'. This character was based upon the Swedish wrestler, Tor Johnson. Behemoth is friends with the Clown with the tear-away face. Unlike other things with an axe in the head, Behemoth never looks yuck or evil. Not even with the axe in his head. In the commentary on the movie's dvd he is compared to Lennie from the John Steinbeck novel Of Mice and Men. Randy Crenshaw provides the voice.

Clown with the Tear-Away Face

An obese denizen of Halloweentown who can tear off his face, hence he is often referred to as 'the Clown with the tear-away face'. He rides around Halloweentown on his unicycle. Behemoth likes being friends with him. When he has his face on, his voice is high, but when he takes it off it is a deep scary voice. He can disappear in a cloud of smoke.

Corpse Dad

A zombie who is married to the Corpse Mom and who is the father of the Corpse Kid. Kerry Katz provides the voice.

Corpse Kid

Son of the Corpse Mom and Corpse Dad. He is friends with the Mummy Boy and the Winged Demon. Morbidly obese, like his mother. Debi Durst provides the voice.

Corpse Mom

A zombie who is the mother of the Corpse Kid and who is married to the Corpse Dad. Morbidly obese, like her son. Debi Durst supplies the voice.

Cyclops

A one-eyed demon.

Devil

A devil that resides in Halloween Town. Greg Proops provides the voice.

Harlequin Demon

A frightful spectre of Hallow's Eve who appears to have an affinity for fashion design. He has an appearance similar to an accordion and a rooster, with a little tentacle monster on the side. He once transformed an "old rat into a most delightful hat." Greg Proops supplies the voice.

=Igor=

Doctor Finklestein's assistant. He enjoys bone biscuits and follows Doctor Finklestine most places assisting to his needs. Has a squinty eye.

Invisible Ghoul

Is actually a shadow of the Oogie Boogie Man.

Melting Man

A slimy man that is slowly melting. He is also very sticky. Oddly, he wears a fancy blue suit.

Monster Under the Bed

It only has one appearance in the song "This is Halloween." Credited as "Creature Under the Bed." It has sharp teeth and red eyes. Carmen Twillie provides the voice.

Monster Under the Stairs

Depicted as a monster with fingers like snakes and spiders in his hair. Credited as "The One Hiding Under the Stairs." His mouth is similar to Dr. Finkelstein's mouth. Although it can only be seen for a second during the 'Making Christmas' song [ [http://youtube.com/watch?v=W0yEYrm6-7A YouTube - Broadcast Yourself ] ] , production art shows that he has no legs, and instead his body ends with a small wooden board on wheels. He has four appearances in the film, with three key-singing/speaking roles, 'This is Halloween', 'Town Meeting', 'Making Christmas', and a minor speaking role when Jack returns to Halloweentown at the end. His appearance is possibly a reference to the Sandworms from the movie Beetlejuice, also by Tim Burton. Kerry Katz provides the voice.

Mummy Boy

A one-eyed mummy who is friends with the Corpse Kid and the Winged Demon. This character is a nod to Tim Burton's poem about a mummy boy. Sherwood Ball supplies the voice.

=Mr. Hyde=

In both the movie and video games, Mr. Hyde is depicted as a monstrous man with smaller versions of him under his hat (Similar to The Cat in the Hat). Randy Crenshaw provides the voice.

treet Band

An accordion, bass, and sax player. A fourth member of the band can be seen singing some lines from the inside of the bass. Jack taught them how to play Christmas Songs. They also heard Jack and Sallys' feelings about Halloween and each other. Greg Proops provides the voice of the Saxophone player.

Undersea Gal

A female hybrid of the Creature from the Black Lagoon and a mermaid. Carmen Twillie provides the voice.

Vampire Brothers

Four vampires that serve as a pallet of varying heights and shapes. They would seem to be an odd legion of Jack's fans. They walk around with umbrellas during the day and like playing hockey. Sherwood Ball, Randy Crenshaw, and Kerry Katz supply their voices.

Wolfman

Halloweentown's resident werewolf. He is often seen howling at the moon or growling at various denizens, and also (according to the NECA figure packaging) likes eating raw meat. Glen Walters provides the voice.

Zeldaborn and Helgamine

Two witches that personify juxtaposition of height. Zeldaborn is short and squat with an enormous boil on her nose, Helgamine is tall and willowy. Both have wirey hair and prominent hats and distinctive cackle commonly associated with Witches. They seem to have an infatuation for Jack Skellington. Their names come from the card game and video games. Debi Durst and Susan McBride provide the voices.

Ghosts

The ghosts appear in the beginning of the song "This Is Halloween." They appear in as enemies.

Cameo Characters

Easter Bunny

Leader of Easter Town. Lock, Shock, and Barrel mistake it as Santa Claus. In "", he was later one of the captive victims of Oogie Boogie in his quest to become the Seven Holidays King, though this time he is never seen.

Hanging Tree

A walking tree with five hanging skeletons on its branches. You can see it in the town meeting to the right of Sally when she walks in as well as after the Mayor spins the spotlight around the room. Sally is sitting on it. Doesn't appear after the Town Meeting Song.

Female Finklestein Assistant

Makes an appearance at the end pushing Dr. Finklestein in the snow (She was the creation he was working on that he gave half his brain to). She was referred to as "Jewel" by her creator.

"You will only be able to see the following characters if you look out for them!"

=Frankenstein-Like Creature=

Shown in a very zoomed out scene in the beginning of the movie after Jack finishes his entrance and everyone celebrates. He is standing by the Mayor's car.

Gate Keeper

A bird-faced monster that serves as the gatekeeper of Halloween Town.Above him (it) is a sign that says "gate keeper".

=Grim Reaper=

A resident of Halloween Town. His notable appearance is sitting behind the Behemoth at the Town Meeting.

=Living Jack O'Lanterns=

A living Jack O'Lantern makes an appearance sitting in the Town Hall Meeting on the very edge of the left sides inner walk way.

keleton Creature

Shown in a very zoomed out scene in the beginning of the movie after Jack finishes his entrance and everyone celebrates.

Unnamed Witch

Makes an appearance sitting next to the Grim Reaper in the town hall meeting (Looks like the Evil Witch from Disney's Snow White that gives the apple to Snow White).

Toy Characters

This is a list of toys that appeared in the movie

Vampire Teddy Bear

A small teddy bear with a large mouthful of fangs. He is seen chasing after two dark skinned children. He appears to have the ability to fly and greatly resembles Mickey Mouse. In the Haunted Mansion Holiday he appears replacing the mascot raven. In the video game he stars as an enemy for players to defeat and know as a "trick" or a "treat". In Tim Burton's Batman the company logo of Shrek co. looks like an earley teddy with pointed ears, round eyes and a normal smile. He also goes by the name scary teddy. The fact that he and the bullet hole duck were brought to the same house is a nod to the relationship between Mickey and Donald Duck, two disney characters that appeared on the children of the house's pajamas. Before its first appearance the Devil and the werewolf were seen sawing it and Corpse Dad was striking it with a chain, implying that the possible simply corrupted it into a terrifying form.

Evil Duck

A toy duck on wheels with black circles around his eyes, fangs and holes with blood dripping out on the sides of his body. He was in the same house with scary teddy chasing the same children. The bloody holes in his body may indicate that he was shot repeatedly or that he was bitten over and over by a vampire. In the Haunted Mansion Holiday he appears with the other toys in the attic. He makes a cameo appearance in Kingdom Hearts II. He also goes by the bullet hole duck or the dead duck.

Giant Snake

A giant orange and black snake that almost ate the Corpse Dad. He was later seen eating a Christmas tree as a boy watched, screaming.

Jack-o-Lantern-in-the-box

A jack-in-the-box with a jack-o-lantern head. He chased a seriously overweight child, hoping to feast on the boy(he would have had quite a mouthful)in the movie and can bounce to get around. He makes a cameo appearance in Kingdom Hearts II with the evil duck. In the Haunted Mansion Holiday he replaces the ghosts that spring out in the attic with himself, a cat-in-the-box [a black cat jack-in-the-box] and a skull-in-the-box [a human skull jack-in-the-box] . In he is used as a weapon that surprises enemies while Jack is in Santa Claus costume and cat-in-the-box makes a cameo appearance as a train car on Oogie Boogie's train on the "Saving Sandy" level of the game.

Monster Train

An odd bird faced train that makes a short cameo appearance in the movie and the attic in the Haunted Mansion Holiday. The train was re-introduced as the Oogie train.

Monster Wreath

A monsterous wreath Jack hung on the door of an old woman's home. It was seen attacking the woman with three tentacles. It was seen in the Haunted Mansion in the conservatory hanging from a chandelier with tendrils all over the room and Venus Flytrap like creatures singing "kidnap the sandy claws". On the ride the wreath is depicted with sharp pointed teeth and glowing yellow eyes, but in the film it had regular white eyes and had no teeth at all.

Marie Antoinette doll

A ballerina doll that has her head chopped off by the mummy boy. Her name is derived from the card game and the fact that she and the famous beheaded queen suffered the same fate of the guillotine.
