Jerry Holmes (born December 22, 1957 in Newport News, Virginia) is an American football coach and former defensive back. He played ten seasons in the National Football League, mainly for New York Jets but also with the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers. He also played in the USFL for the New Jersey Generals and the Pittsburgh Maulers. Holmes attended West Virginia University.[1]

College career

Holmes began his collegiate career at Chowan Junior College before transferring to West Virginia. He lettered for two years at West Virginia.

Coaching career

He was the head coach for the Hampton University football team for the 2008 season, producing a record of 6 wins and 5 losses.[2] He was fired after the season was over because it was believed that he was searching for a job in the NFL, which hurt the team's recruiting.[3]
