Cabinet of Iceland

The Cabinet of Iceland (Icelandic: Stjórnarráð Íslands) is the chief executive body of the Republic of Iceland. It consists of the Prime Minister of Iceland and the cabinet ministers. It has 12 members. The current Cabinet was installed on May 24, 2007

Current cabinet

Following the general elections on May 12 2007 the sitting coalition government consisting of the Independence Party and the Progressive Party retained its majority in Icelandic parliament, although only with one seat more than the opposition parties.

On May 17 2007, the leaders of the coalition parties announced that the coalition would discontinue, due to the narrow majority it had. At the same occasion Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde, leader of the Independence Party, said that he would attempt to form a new government with the Social Democratic Alliance.

On May 22 2007 the leaders of the new coalition parties presented the new government ministers. They are:

Cabinet of the first Haarde government

The first Haarde government has started its term on June 15, 2006 and lasted till may 23, 2007. It was a coalition between the Independence Party and Progressive Party.
