Coins of British America

Coins of British America

The coins of British America were issued in 1688 and in between 1722 and 1724. These coins are extremely sought after by those collecting coins of the British Empire and the Commonwealth.

The First US Coins

The first US coin was made in 1792. They traded it for other objects such as food, or needed supplies. The first US coins were made out of copper, silver, and gold. They were made starting with a basic design. Then they made a plaster model of the design. After the model was the way they wanted it, they duplicated it with copper, silver, or gold.

William Wood's Coinage (1722-24)

This very historic issue is also known as the Rosa Americana (Latin for American Rose) coinage. These coins depict a laureated portrait of King George I of Great Britain facing right on the obverse. The Halfpenny and Penny depict a rose right in the centre of the reverse, whereas, the Twopence depicts a crowned rose on the reverse.
