Barbara Kelly (public servant)

Dame Barbara Mary Kelly, DBE, DL (Dumfriesshire, 1998), FRIAS (born 27 February 1940) is a Scottish civic activist. She is chairman of the Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival, and Convener of the Crichton Foundation.[1]

A past Chairman of the Scottish Consumer Council, a past Main Board Member of SNH and of Scottish Enterprise Kelly worked for the interests of rural Scotland, founding, to that end, Rural Forum and the Southern Uplands Partnership.

A member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh's Foot and Mouth Inquiry in 2002, she was part of the RSE team looking at the future of Scotland's Uplands and Islands. She recently chaired the Advisory Group for the publication of the SCC Report on Rural Advocacy and was a member of the Scottish Government Advisory Committee which produced the 2007 report, Rural Scotland: Better Still, Naturally.[2] She is a member of the Rural Development Council.

Fellow, RIAS

A former chairman of the Architects Registration Board, Kelly was named a Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland in 2008. [3]

Honours

She was promoted from CBE to DBE in the June 2007 Birthday Honours List for "public service in Scotland".
