U.S. Highway 43 (US-43), mostly internally designated by the Alabama Department of Transportation as State Route 13 (SR-13), is a major north-south state highway across the western part of the U.S. state of Alabama. Only between near Berry and near Russellville is SR-13 separate; here US-43 uses SR-18, SR-171, and SR-17.

Route description

Beginning in Mobile, US-43 travels through rural areas and small towns in western Alabama. The route travels through sections of the Black Belt, one of the poorer areas of the state. At Eutaw, the route junctions U.S. Highway 11 and unsigned State Route 7, where the routes begin a concurrency heading northeastwardly towards Tuscaloosa. At Tuscaloosa, US-43 diverts from US-11 and resumes a northward orientation as it leads towards Fayette. Before reaching that town, US-43 and SR-13 separate, with US-43 turning west on SR-18 to Fayette.

At Fayette, US-43 turns north onto SR-171, which takes it to Hamilton. SR-17 then carries US-43 back to SR-13 south of Russellville. From there, US-43 heads in a northerly direction, passing through Muscle Shoals and Florence, as it heads towards the Tennessee state line.
