Capitals of Vojvodina

This is a list of historical capitals of Vojvodina, as well as a list of historical capitals of former states and provinces situated in the territory of present-day Vojvodina:

*Sirmium (Sremska Mitrovica) – One of the four capital cities of Roman Empire (293 AD), capital of Lower Pannonia (103 AD), capital of Pannonia Secunda (296 AD), capital of Diocese of Pannonia (4th century), capital of Praetorian prefecture of Illyricum (4th century), capital of Byzantine Pannonia (6th century), residence of Sermon, duke of Syrmia (11th century), capital of Theme Sirmium (11th century).

*Titel – Residence of Bulgarian duke Salan (9th century).

*Debrc – Residence of Stefan Dragutin, king of Syrmia (1282-1316).

*Kupinik (Kupinovo) – Residence of Serbian despots (15th and 16th centuries).

*Subotica – Residence of Emperor Jovan Nenad (1526-1527). Emperor Jovan Nenad later moved his residence to Segedin.

*Slankamen – Residence of Radoslav Čelnik, duke of Syrmia (1527-1530). Radoslav Čelnik later moved his residence to Nebojc.

*Temišvar (Timişoara) – Capital of the Ottoman Province of Temeşvar (1552-1716), capital of the Habsburg Banat of Temeswar (1718-1778), capital of the Austrian crown land - Serbian Voivodship and Tamiš Banat (1849-1860), capital of the independent Banat Republic (1918).

*Sremski Karlovci - Capital of the Serbian Voivodship (1848). The capital of Serbian Voivodship was later moved to Zemun, Veliki Bečkerek, and Temišvar (Timişoara).

*Novi Sad – Capital of Banat, Bačka and Baranja (1918-1919), capital of the Yugoslav Danube Banovina (1929-1941), capital of Yugoslavian and Serbian autonomous province of Vojvodina (since 1945).
