St. Augusta is a city in Stearns County, Minnesota, directly south of the city of St. Cloud. As of 2007, the city had 3,272 residents. Originally St. Augusta Township, it incorporated on 2 May 2000 in order to avoid annexation by St. Cloud, Minnesota. For a short time St. Augusta was officially named "Ventura" in honor of then Governor Jesse Ventura, but voters decided on its current name months after incorporation, and the name was officially changed to St. Augusta on 7 November 2000. St. Augusta is part of the St. Cloud Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township had a total area of 37.9 square miles (98.3 km²), of which, 37.6 square miles (97.5 km²) of it was land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it (0.76%) was water. The city occupies the entirety of the original township. Minnesota State Highway 15 and County 7 are two of the main routes in St. Augusta. Interstate 94 and County 75 skirt the northeastern border of St. Augusta. The city of St. Cloud is to the immediate north and northeast of St. Augusta.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 3,065 people, 987 households, and 838 families residing in the township. The population density was 81.4 people per square mile (31.4/km²). There were 1,000 housing units at an average density of 26.6/sq mi (10.3/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.79% White, 0.07% African American, 0.03% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 0.03% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.39% of the population.

There were 987 households out of which 47.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.5% were married couples living together, 5.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.0% were non-families. 11.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.11 and the average family size was 3.38.

In the township the population was spread out with 31.6% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 6.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 102.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.9 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $57,292, and the median income for a family was $60,000. Males had a median income of $36,148 versus $24,554 for females. The per capita income for the township was $21,712. About 2.1% of families and 2.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and 22.6% of those age 65 or over.
