LaVan Davis was born in Atlanta, Georgiaon September 21, 1966.Davis currently lives in Kansas City, Missouri. Davis's acting career began in 2004, although he didn't begin working with Tyler Perry until 2006, when he was credited with his first role as Poppy in the play Why Did I Get Married?. Davis has also appeared in several other stage plays.

LaVan Davis is an American actor and singer, known for his work with Tyler Perry. Davis's acting career began in 2004, when he was credited with his first role as Leroy in the film Mindbenders. He has appeared in many of Perry's movies, plays, and his sitcom Tyler Perry's House of Payne on which he plays the cranky Curtis Payne. He has appeared in the plays "Why Did I Get Married?" as Poppy, and " Madea Goes to Jail" as Leo and he has also appeared in the movies "Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns" as Henry (the bus driver) and "Daddy's Little Girls" as Lester (the nightclub singer). Before Davis began working with Tyler Perry, he was featured on other projects including the films "Mindbenders" as Leroy, and "Puff, Puff, Pass" as Otis. He also appeared on one episode of "Everbody Hates Chris" as Preacher. Davis also portrayed a character by the name of Grandpa Kelly on an episode of House of Payne entitled "Father's Day".
