Open Yale Courses

Open Yale Courses

Open Yale Courses is a project of Yale University to share full video and course materials from its undergraduate courses.

Open Yale Courses provides free access to a selection of introductory courses.

Open Yale Courses launched in December 2007 with seven courses from various departments. The project now includes 25 courses from a broad range of introductory courses taught at Yale college.[1] The initiative was funded by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation,[2] which has supported other universities' OpenCourseWare projects.[3]

Shortcomings

Some of the lectures, as delivered to attendees, contain copyrighted content which Yale is unable to distribute to Internet viewers due to legal restrictions. The video lectures are edited at this point and the copyrighted work is generally 'snipped' from the presentation or the video is faded to black leaving just the audio to go on. In these instances Yale does not provide alternative sources, leaving the viewer to independently source suitable material with which to make sense of the presentation.[4]
