College of Art, Delhi, established in 1942, is a premier art college for advanced training in Visual Art, i.e. Creative and Applied Art, under the Faculty of Music & Fine Art, University of Delhi, and run by Government of NCT Delhi. Also referred as 'Delhi College of Art', it is situated on Tilak Marg, New Delhi [1][2][3].

Overview

The college offers courses both at graduate and postgraduate levels; Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is an undergraduate course with 4 years duration in disciplines like Applied Art, Art History, Painting, Print Making, Sculpture and Visual Communication. Postgraduate course, Master of Fine Arts (MFA) which is two year in duration is also in the same disciplines (except Art History).

Art Education stalwarts such as Mr. Ramendranath Chakravarty, Padma Bhushan and Kala Samraat Prof.B.C.Sanyal, Prof.Biswanath Mukherjee, Prof.O.P.Sharma, have since its inception, headed and nurtured this prestigious institution. The College has also had the good fortune to associate, over the years, with educationists and eminent artists such as Mr. Sailoz Mukherjee, Prof. K.S.Kulkarni, Mr. G.R.Santosh, Mr. Bimal Das Gupta, Mr. Dhanraj Bhagat, Ms. Jaya Appaswamy, Prof. Dinkar Kowshik, Mr. Somnath Hore, Mr. Biren De, Padma Vibhushan Dr. Satish Gujral, Mr. Amarnath Sehgal, Prof. P.D.Abhayankar, Prof. P.N.Mago, Prof. S.S.Vohra, Prof. N.C.Sen Gupta, Mr. Narendra Srivastav, Mr. Rajesh Mehra, Ms Anupam Sud, Mr. K.L.Rangeen, Prof. Jagmohan Chopra, Prof. Paramjeet Singh. And, to mention a few names from the so vast an Alumni such as Mr. Manjit Bawa, Mr. Sidharth Sen, Mr. Niloy Sen, Mr. Pradip Sircar, Mr. E.J.Enas, Mr. Neeraj Goswami, Mr. Subha Ghosh. Besides, the present Faculty also includes from the Alumni such members as Prof. Jai Zharotia, Ms. Anupam Sud, Mr. Krishan Ahuja, Ms. Kanchan Chander, Mr. Kanwar Singh Pawar, Mr. Rabi Shankar Dey, Dr. B.S.Chauhan, Ms. Sangeeta Kaushik, Mr. Manoj Kumar, Mr. Pardeep Kumar, Mr. R.K.Panwar, Ms. Archana Sharma and Mr. Mohan Singh. The Annual Art Exhibition of the college, put by students is held every year during the month of march. it was the 58th version of the exhibition (Ab Tak 58)

In 2008, the college added new buildings and an auditorium, designed by architect as-well-as an eminent artist Satish Gujral to its campus [6]

Courses offered

It offers courses in most mediums of Visual Art, both Creative and Applied Art. This includes training for Master in Fine Art course (except Art History) and Bachelor of Arts in, Applied Art, Art History, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture and Visual Communication with emphasis on studio practicals, prescribed theory subjects and research in selected fields.
