Trenton is a city in Todd County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 419 at the 2000 census. Settled as Lewisburg in 1796, the city was renamed after Trenton, New Jersey in 1819. Trenton is located at coor dms|36|43|24|N|87|15|40|W|city (36.723246, -87.261209)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 419 people, 177 households, and 121 families residing in the city. The population density was 750.1 people per square mile (288.9/km²). There were 196 housing units at an average density of 350.9/sq mi (135.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 79.71% White, 15.99% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.95% Asian, 0.95% from other races, and 1.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.43% of the population.

There were 177 households out of which 22.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.8% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.6% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the city the population was spread out with 21.5% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 20.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 82.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $27,250, and the median income for a family was $35,938. Males had a median income of $32,917 versus $19,167 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,723. About 17.4% of families and 19.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.8% of those under age 18 and 13.0% of those age 65 or over.
