Radium Springs is a census-designated place (CDP) in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 1,518 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Las Cruces Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Radium Springs is located at coor dms|32|29|5|N|106|54|23|W|city (32.484736, -106.906418)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.0 square miles (19.6 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 1,518 people, 544 households, and 417 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 251.5 people per square mile (97.0/km²). There were 589 housing units at an average density of 97.6/sq mi (37.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 71.28% White, 0.40% African American, 1.32% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 24.77% from other races, and 2.11% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 49.41% of the population.

There were 544 households out of which 39.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.3% were non-families. 20.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.19.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 29.6% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.2 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $33,167, and the median income for a family was $34,083. Males had a median income of $34,196 versus $22,813 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $14,660. About 7.5% of families and 11.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.0% of those under age 18 and 14.5% of those age 65 or over.
